This article covers the safety speach and a description of games. The safety speach is called that because every day of paintball starts with the Ref covering these points. The information covered here is important for every player to know. Safety speech - The most important rule is to keep your mask on while on the field. Paintball is a very safe sport. The only way to get seriously hurt is to take your mask off and get shot in the eye.
- Play for fun. Remember, this is a game. We are here to have a good time. If something is ruining your day, bring it up with the Ref (James) or with one of the experienced players. Please assume that everyone else out here is here to have a good time and has good intentions.
- Being eliminated:
- You are eliminated if you are hit by a paintball and it leaves a mark on you the size of a nickel.
- You are eliminated if you yell “Hit”. Only yell "Hit" to call yourself out, so the Ref can help you off of the field.
- Do not yell “You’re hit” at people. Yell “Paint Check” or “Check Yourself” instead. You want people to understand when you are eliminated so that they will stop shooting you. Yell LOUDLY and hold your gun over your head to clearly signal that you are out.
- If you are not sure if you have been eliminated, you may call “Paint check” and the ref, someone on your own team, and even someone on the opposing team sometimes will tell you if you have been eliminated.
- You may not fake being dead. This would be to casually stroll along the field like eliminated players do to gain a positional advantage. If you act like you have been eliminated, you are eliminated.
- Gun hits do NOT count on this field.
- Friendly fire DOES count. If you are shot by a teammate, you are still out.

I figured out enough of how the Joomla Content Management System works to replace the default logo with one of my own. Not too bad for someone who is not a web developer and not a graphics artist. The logo is created in GIMP. It turns out that GIMP has built in tools for creating logos. I just messed around until I got something acceptable. The new logo may not be better than just acceptable but it is certainly better than having the Joomla logo at the top of all of my stuff. After that it was just a matter of finding where that original logo was called from and replacing it. One of these days I may have to take a swing at this again. I can probably do better. |

I have a collection of audiotapes that I have taken of older relatives. These will only likely be interesting to a few people. Still, I am going to post them here. I am going to start with the first few being available without any kind of login. We may get to a point where that changes. To get to the links for these tapes, you will need to use the Topics menu on the left. The Genealogy link will take you to a list of categories and all the tapes collected there. I am starting with tapes of my great aunt Margaret that I made on a visit in 1994. At some point I will add what I have from Helen Gillis and Pearl Johnson. |

Spring Paintball 2008 has been scheduled. Here are the highlights: Saturday, May 3rd. $29 for the package deal. Payment deadline is Friday, April 25th. For those of you who are new to this, twice per year I organize a paintball outing for friends and co-workers. This is a casual event and not too competitive. Most of us only play twice per year. Many of us use the rental equipment we get in the package deal. We play for fun. We play all day (9:00 AM – 6:00 PM) although some people will arrive late and some will leave early. We play at KC Crusaders paintball. Their web site is http://kc-crusaders.com. (They have updated the web site and it looks good.) The $29 covers the field fee, equipment rental (mask, marker), and 500 rounds of paint. Other interesting details: I limit the group size to 30. Most people will shoot more than 500 rounds. You can save some money by buying paint by the case. A case of 2000 rounds is $50 (Stinger) or $60 (Premium). The field has changed policy so that if you care to use your own equipment, this is no longer a hassle. You pay the same amount but you get your air refilled all day. This is a private group outing.
